murder and rape in movies

this is an era of extremes. where we have come to the last stance. money or bust. and in the bid for money, networks and movie studios are after control of the public's attention. we've gone so low that i don't think we can go much lower. reality tv is probably as low as it gets before we start having paid per view executions.

and in this ruckus of shock tv and shock thriller, i'm glad i have not been completely desensitized. i'm glad there is a part of me that can't stand to watch murder scenes that show the actual murder where victims are screaming or pleading for their lives. i'm glad that watching rape on the screen makes leaves me emotionally racked for days. the implication of these things are okay for me because these are real life events. however, the actually re-enactment of them for profit is disgusting to me. art comes in many forms, i know. i'm fascinated by brutal prints myself. but having a moment of morbidness or pain captured in a single moment is still just an abstraction of the horror. it is not the real thing.

i mean. you wonder why they'll show women getting raped on cable but they freak out when two men make out. there is a certain mystery to what we are willing to tolerate. i know a lot of people enjoy seeing these things on tv or in movies. i know i enjoy watching action and gun fights. i liked saving private ryan up until the point where one of the soldiers is getting stabbed. the character is obviously staring at his own demise and you can see it in his eyes that he's fighting to resist it. i can't stand it. i really can't. the general's daughter, while i liked the plot, had major scenes which truly effected me. i had serious emotional breakdowns after watching that movie.

they don't show children being raped or molested on the screen. why? one, it could be that it is seriously illegal. two, society is just not ready to sink that low. three, it is just fundamentally wrong.

i'm a product of the social morals that i've been taught to embrace. there is no universal right or wrong, there is no real evil in this world. but there is a desire for life and health. i'm willing to defend that.
