bacon sugar cookies

last night i decided to put my new baking gear into use. i pulled out my mother's recipe book she gave to me for my graduation a few years back. i found a good sugar cookie recipe...it's actually called a dutch cookie...but it seemed like a sugar cookie to me.
i made cool shapes with the first batch but they spread too much so i ended up going back to round cookies for the next two batches.

i think they turned out very well. i even put icing on them. smiley and frowny faces. we had a few and i think the over all result was very good. i stuck them in the microwave overnight so the cats wouldn't get them. i was too lazy to put them in tupperware. BIG mistake. the next morning, jeremy pulled them out and cooked bacon in the microwave. he then put the cookies BACK into the microwave.

later that day, came over and i offered him one of the sugar cookies. he said it tasted like sausage! i was like OH NO...the cookies must have absorbed the bacon essence. GROSS. i didn't taste it at first but later that night i stuck one in my mouth and it had this nasty bacon after taste. even jeremy agreed. we had to throw my batch away!!!! :(

maybe baking isn't for me after all. here's the recipe for anyone who feels like trying it.
--------------------------------------------------------

Dutch Cookies

1 1/2 sticks of margarine
1 1/2 cups of sugar
1 tsp vanilla
4 tbs milk
2 cups flour
3/4 tsp baking soda

cream margarine and sugar; add remaining ingredients. mix well.
roll in waxed paper and refrigerate until firm. slice thin. place on ungreased cookie sheet. bake 10 minutes at 350 degrees until lightly brown. cool before storing.

alachia's annex: add 3 tbs more margarine and 1/2 cup more sugar. also sprinke sugar lightly on cookie before baking. cut small but thick slices for cookies to spread less.
